Stage I Schools

Stage I completed at the end of August 2011.
The three schools remain part of the Zisukhanyo family of schools.

Liesbeeck Primary School

Liesbeeck Primary has always been at the forefront of developments in education and therefore it came as no surprise when they were selected to be one of the Zisukhanyo schools who would receive a state of the art computer lab.

Learners work on the mathematics software with enthusiasm and enjoyment as they strive to improve their results. Their educators received training in the use of the software and are now skilfully putting the mathematical software to use in improving the mathematical ability and skill of their learners.

Many afternoons over the last 15 months educators enthusiastically attended training classes for word, excel, power point and internet and email. These skills are now being deployed in the completion of many administrative tasks, classroom activities and assessments.

Eastville Primary School

Fifteen months into the life of their ZSP computer lab; the staff, learners and community of Eastville Primary school are still as enthusiastic and proud of their lab as they were when the lab was launched.

The educators are mid way through an intensive training programme that includes training in word, excel, power point as well as internet and email. The educators are putting these skills to good use in completing administrative tasks, test papers and worksheets electronically.

Through their training programme educators have been exposed to educational software geared at improving mathematics and reading skills. The learners enjoy the lab activities because it is an extension of their classroom and it is a known fact that learners do not stay absent on the day of their lab session.

The grade 7 learners were part of a special HIV / ADIS Peer Education Programme in partnership with the South African Medical Research Council and Wesley College in Ireland. The six months programme was aimed at improving learner knowledge of HIV/AIDS, as well as allowing both sets of learners to collaborate to produce a brochure on the subject. The highlight of the programme was the visit of the Wesley College learners to Eastville Primary November 2009.

Mitchell Heights Primary School

Mitchell Heights Primary school, in Tafelsig is now a beacon hope in their community;with its state of the art computer lab. The ICT is used to deliver the curriculum to the learners and assist educators with both teaching and administrative tasks.

The school was the host for the official launch of the Zisukhanyo Schools Project in May 2009. This spectacular event was attended by the Irish Ambasador to South Africa, Kader Asmal as well as the head of the Human Dignity Foundation, D.r John Climax.

Learners are eager to work in the lab on mathematics software that provides them with the opportunity to consolidate classroom activities. Educators have been put through a training programme on the mathematical software this gives them the opportunity to integrate the lab activities with their classroom activities; ensuring that the mathematical software supports learning and teaching.

Educators speak with pride of the knowledge and skill they have acquired through the ICT training programme. This has allowed them to provide school management with administrative documents of high quality. On any given day educators can be found busy in the computer lab creating worksheets, tests and class activities for their learners.
